year 9

Welcome to my year 9 collection! This is all my course work from year 9, it focuses on skull illusions, and leans towards Gothic horses and how i tied the two themes together to make my final piece. It is not my best work, but it shows how i progress and develop an idea to make it my own. You can use probes, scans and tests, but this will still be the best way of understanding my complex and intriguing mind...

This is the Alice in wonder-land illusion, I sketched the rough in pencil and then proceed to ink, I nearly wore away the page trying to get the skirt right and I'm still not happy with it, but that is the curse of being an artist...

This is a single line skull, I sketched it in ink pen and filled in some areas with water color. in some areas, the ink from the pen ran, turning the color grey and tarnished, but on the teeth (where this is most prominent) the effect came out rather well.

This is the rough for the colored skull (above). A rough just focuses on line and positioning, not shade and texture. That is for the clean up, which is a trace of the rough.

This is a copy of a piece by Kristin Eyfells, she used a lot of bright color and exaggerating lines around the eyes and mouth. This usually makes the subject look aged, but is very striking. 

This is another copy of Kristin Eyfells works, for this piece i used water color and ink pen. 

This is my interpretation of Eyfells work, using an image of my own eyes. This piece became the starting point for many other pieces.

This is the final for Sydney's portrait, I used water
color for this piece and focused on syd's fur and the
brightness of the eye decoration. I also added green
dots around her muzzle for extra effect.

i started to map out the Kristin Eyfells effects on her eyes.

This is the start of my Gothic horses! This is my sea horse, quite literally. I designed her to be sleek and streamlined, so more realistic. I like the contrast from her pitch black eye against her smooth, pale skin, its quite captivating. 

This is my scorpion inspired horse, i wanted the look of weight and long, muscular legs. I had to use a very soft pencil to reach the darker tones so my hands were filthy!

This is my favorite horse! Snake inspired, with a huge split mouth, long black tongue and matching double hook tail... This is the horse i dream of, the teeth are just amazing... this is the basis of many of my drawings.

This is my griffin, the pose was so hard to think of i had to use one of my model hoses to pose for me, even so, it was difficult.

Another good one! This is a copy of an anatomy diagram, |I love this one so much, it went so well. the shading came out rather stippled in the photocopy, but this only adds to the grainy texture of the bones.

This is the rough for the piece above, in the rough, I ran out of paper and consequently had to dip the head, but for the clean-up I raised it again. I had to draw the full horse to ensure the shape was right.

This is a practice for my final piece, but purely focusing on the horse and he rmarkings.
